Obituary For Luis Amaral
Luis Amaral was born on March 23, 1933 in Faial, Azores, Portugal, and entered into rest on October 24, 2019 with his loving family by his side.
Luis is survived by his beloved wife Lucia Amaral of over 57 years, his son Louie Amaral (Nora) of Tracy, CA and daughters Linda Duque (Walter) of Newark, CA and Lanette Dutra (Ivo) of Union City, CA. He also leaves his six grandchildren Alyssa, Kelsey, Lauren, Sean, Zachary and Ian. Luis is also survived by three brothers Joaquim Amaral (Maria) of Newark, Lino Amaral (Madeline) of Rodeo and Carlos Amaral (Maria) of Hayward and one sister Filomena Carrancho (Jose) of Hayward as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Tomas Amaral and Rosa Amaral, brothers Jose Amaral, Manuel Amaral, Tomas Amaral, Antonio Amaral and sisters Maria Lobao, Rosa Moniz and Adelina Peixoto.
Luis immigrated to California in 1959 and worked various jobs in the Fremont area. He spent 33 years at Leslie Salt/Cargill where he was a forklift operator and retired in 1996. He spent most of his life devoted to the Holy Spirit and volunteering at S.D.E.S Alvarado in Union City, CA. He served as president and director of the organization and many years as lead cook for most of their functions. He was a devout parishioner of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for 55 years. Luis was a founding member and director of the Filarmonica Recreio do Emigrante Portuguese of Newark and was also a member of Centro Pastoral Portugues of Newark, San Pablo Holy Ghost Society and Luso American Fraternal Federation. In his spare time, he loved fishing, RVing, going on cruises, playing cards, dancing at the Portuguese festas and spending time with all of his family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, October 29, 2019 with a Rosary at 6:30 PM at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 30, 2019, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 37588 Fremont Blvd, Fremont. Burial will follow mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd., Hayward.
