Born December 20, 1936 in Laredo, TX, and entered into rest on November 1, 2014 in Fremont, CA at the age of 77. Predeceased by his wife of 34 years, Lurecia Nieto, in 1998. Survived by his son Hector Nieto and granddaughter Miya Nieto of Joplin, MO, his son Robert Nieto of Shell Beach, CA, his brother Jesse Nieto and sisters Cathy Hernandez and Irene Bustamante of Fremont, CA, sister Lucy Goodman of Jamestown, CA, sister Alice Simms of French Camp, CA, sister Margaret Nieto of Cerritos, CA, brother Joe Nieto of Downey, CA, brother Phil Nieto, and his longtime companion Sara Salazar of San Jose, CA.

Gilbert worked for IBM for thirty years and was a longtime resident of South San Jose. He enjoyed traveling, laughter, exercising, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 10, from 10-11am and a Chapel Service will begin at 11am at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Private burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Gilroy, CA.
